While working at Ashton Design, the studio was chosen to design the BMA’s newly renovated African Wing family guide. The client specified a full-color, 8-page booklet that would introduce families with children ages 6-9 to four objects from the collection. The design needed to “take a contemporary approach to the works of art and carefully balance the objects with a vibrant color palette and tone that would be playful and engaging for intergenerational groups." The design also had to “accommodate topic headers, looking closely sections, artist profiles, information about the artwork, in-gallery activities, label copy, and an at-home activity. Finally, the client wanted the design to feel playful, friendly, accessible, contemporary, and respectful of the artwork.
